Portable partnership

Demand for simple-to-use mobile applications has resulted in unique partnerships, the most recent of which is between smartphone manufacturer Research In Motion and software vendor SAP.

With increasing competition and a need to be more flexible, enterprises are pushing business processes to the point of contact with customers. Mobile customers still use laptops, but handheld mobile devices represent the next wave of tools that are rapidly becoming a necessary component for the long-term success of future business.

As enterprise mobility deployments continue to pick up speed and the number of converged mobile devices grows, businesses are forced to adapt to changing conditions by bringing their business processes to the frontline. As a result, vendors have focused on mobile devices, specifically smartphones. A few years ago, only certain types of applications were mobilised, and they were typically highly customised, expensive projects that required a tremendous effort to deploy. Today, however, network, device and software technology has advanced to the point where different applications are being mobilised more efficiently.
