Technology`s hint of green

Chip manufacturer Intel has pledged its commitment to lowering power consumption in the IT industry and saving the environment.

During June 2007, Google and Intel initiated the Climate Savers Computing Initiative, with a number of top technology companies, including HP, IBM and Oracle, working hand-in-hand with organisations such as the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by making hardware more energy-efficient.

Paul Otellini, Intel chief executive officer, said the company has also joined the IT industry's Green Grid Alliance, aimed at increasing the energy efficiency of data centres.
