Cogito, ergo sum

Jacques Loubser, Group CIO of PPS, brings a technologist’s clear thinking to a new role on the other side of the fence between customer and service provider.

Broadly speaking, there are two types of CIO: the technologist who redirects him- or herself into the business, or the businessperson who develops an interest in technology. Jacques Loubser is the former, somebody who has been – and continues to be – keenly interested in technology and its practical application. Unsurprisingly, he holds a Bachelor of Technology degree in Electronics and Communications Engineering from the University of Johannesburg.

“I wouldn’t change my degree for anything – it provided a strong foundation for problemsolving and strategic thinking,” he says. He entered the industry as a network engineer at the SABC, having begun there as a student, later becoming a software engineer at Amdahl and then a principal solutions architect for what is now BCX.
