Compression, the key to expansion

Two local entrepreneurs are seeking to introduce and capitalise on a controversial data optimisation technology they say will solve South Africa`s data challenges.

There are few countries where the challenge of data storage and transmission cost is more acute than in South Africa. But Sulieman Patel says he`s found a data compression technology that will solve that problem as well as enable the creation of local intellectual property (IP) through innovation.

Adaptive binary optimisation (ABO) technology, which includes encryption, is based on a data compression algorithm originally formulated by Indian computer prodigy Arvind Thiagarajan. It uses repetition and correlation coding instead of more conventional data transformation techniques.

Thiagarajan`s algorithm does not transform, compress or filter out any information. Instead, it reorganises the information into a more compact form.
