Lost between the farm and the fork
The obscene amounts of food lost between farm and fork – in food storage, transport, processing, retail and kitchens – has enormous implications for feeding the planet, but also in the fight to reduce CO2 emissions, an international report warns.

Agriculture is one of the most emission-intensive industries, with each kilogramme of food thrown away representing unnecessary emissions and water usage, says a policy brief produced by the Stockholm International Water Institute, the UN Food and Agriculture Organisation, and the International Water Management Institute.
For example, it quotes one UK study which found that one third of food was thrown away.
