When art meets business

For the fifth successive year, Brainstorm magazine hosted a glamorous launch event befitting the magazine’s prestigious Artists’ Calendar 2014.

03 February 2014

Bringing together the worlds of ICT and art, the Brainstorm calendar 2014 launch was held at Katy’s Palace Bar in Kramerville on December 3, 2013. Guests enjoyed spectacular vistas of Sandton while catching up with colleagues and friends and sampling the delicious canapés. But, the stars of the evening were undoubtedly the artworks commissioned by the various companies. ITWeb Brainstorm magazine launched the calendar initiative in 2008, to give local creative talent the opportunity and platform to produce customised artworks for major ICT companies. The beauty of this initiative is that local talent is recognised in a big way, and the sponsoring company ends up with a unique artwork specific to its personality or offerings in the ICT space.

On the night, MC Duane Rockwell kept things flowing smoothly, introducing the various artworks and delivering a short biography of the artists. Then a panel of judges decided on the winner, as well as second and third place runners-up. Gabrielle Smith nabbed the first prize of a R25 000 commission, sponsored by Neotel. Second place when to Abongwe Mlamla, who received a R5 000 cash prize, sponsored by HP, while third prize went to Claire van der Watt, who was sponsored by IBM.
