For more than a decade, the City of Cape Town has used its CCTV camera network to detect criminal incidents and curb crime.

According to recent stats from the metro police’s strategic surveillance unit, the number of incidents detected with CCTV grew from 22 498 in 2022/2023, to 43 457 in 2023/2024, a 63% increase.
