Opulence is the order of the day

Byzance restaurant in Joburg offers decadent relaxation.

01 August 2005

It is rare to discover a restaurant that summons you back before you`ve even left, but Byzance, the new Greco-cosmopolitan restaurant in Lonehill, does just that. As you enter to the sound of soothing running water, the relaxed yet decadent ambience provides a welcoming relief from the world outside.

Sheltered below the shopping centre, cleverly situated right on the banks of the Lonehill lake, Byzance offers a full bar, a number of quaint outside terraces complete with fountains overlooking the water (which will be perfect for summer sundowners), a beautiful restaurant and a cosy lounge area, all with a view to relish.

The décor is unique and evokes a Mediterranean feel by using pillars with pools of water at the base, mosaic detail, glass lamps and statuettes. In contrast, the furniture is dark wood, with booths and chairs made from an interesting combination of richly textured fabrics. There is a sense of stylish opulence from the Byzantine era. Yet the atmosphere is still informal and comfortable.
