A GOLEM IS A ROBOTLIKE being created for the purpose of doing a variety of tasks, often no more complicated than helping with the housework. Famous modern examples are Dr. Frankenstein’s monster and Mickey Mouse’s broom in Fantasia. All creators came up hard against a great truth: that when you create anything with the intention of endowing it with certain abilities, it inevitably takes on at least some of the characteristics of its creator. As in the story of Frankenstein, the Golem takes matters into its own hands, refusing to be dictated to and then becomes destructive.
