Better internet in Hillbrow than in Sandton? Why not?

01 June 2010

Rael Lissoos laughs at my disbelief.

We’re on the 24th floor of a block of flats in the middle of Hillbrow and I’m watching a YouTube video that’s just downloaded at around 20 megabits per second. Yes, megabits. In this particular neighbourhood, the rubbish is piled high on the fire escapes, sometimes attracting rats the size of cats. Yet I doubt that anyone in Sandton, easily visible to the north after you step around the washing lines, enjoys this kind of internet speed.
