Good wine is one of the upsides of a sophisticated society, and the vast majority of South Africa’s world-class wine is grown in the Western Cape.

The Western Cape is home to the Cape Floral Kingdom (CFK), the smallest and richest plant kingdom in the world, with the result that thousands of hectares of vineyards have replaced a vast diversity of species which have already been compromised by urban growth and invasive alien species, and face an uncertain future due to climate change. With 80% of the CFK falling under private ownership, its conservation has to be championed by the landowner.
