The extended story

Wezwa is a social media platform dedicated to connecting audiences to their favourite shows.

01 October 2013

Our lives are spent in front of screens. If it’s not a computer, laptop or cellphone, it’s a television. Inevitably these different platforms intersect, in recent years in the realm of social media. From Twitter trends to Facebook fan pages, our favourite TV shows no longer end when the credits roll. In response to this, the world’s first social media platform, with its own social design dedicated solely to this growing internet phenomenon known as ‘Social TV’, has recently been launched in South Africa. It’s called Wezwa, isiZulu for ‘have you heard?’.

“It’s an engagement platform for audiences of TV and radio shows,” says Wezwa founder Ulrich Stark. “We have two customers: the producers or broadcasters of the show and, more importantly, the end user – audience members who want to interact with each other and get closer to the show.”
