The South African government`s Accelerated and Shared Growth Initiative South Africa (Asgisa) has, buried deep within its many pages, some mention of telecommunications and the need to reduce the cost of such services.

This was noted by President Thabo Mbeki when he outlined the initiative in his State of the Nation speech earlier this year. He said one intention of the plan is to “expand and modernise the telecommunications infrastructure in South Africa”.
