Silently slipping away

Are you experiencing the phenomenon of the ‘quiet quitter’?

09 December 2022

After ‘the great resignation’, business leaders are being warned of a new change in employee attitudes brought about by the rapid change in working circumstances over the last three years: ‘quiet quitting’.

The great resignation was the exodus of workers from well-paid, but high-pressure, long working hour jobs in search of something more fulfilling – inspired by hours at home crafting the perfect sourdough bread. Quiet quitting, meanwhile, is – according to the TikTok video that brought focus to it – the realisation that your life is not measured by productivity at work, so you should quit going ‘above and beyond’ for the boss and keep your personal time and energy reserves for something more fulfilling.
