Broadband gets the royal treatment

Royal Bafokeng is driving economic expansion and diversity by making broadband a crucial part of the nation’s 30-year development plan.

Successful is a word often associated with the Royal Bafokeng Kingdom, a Setswana-speaking community some 150 kilometres from Johannesburg. The reason? The community is run like a business and presided over by King Kgosi Leruo Molotlegi, who has a decisive master plan to lead the nation to financial independence and sustained prosperity.

The region relies heavily on mining, but the developmental vision is to diversify the economy with a strong focus on infrastructure investment. In tandem with the development of roads and transportation networks, a world-class broadband network is being implemented in a phased approach so that the nation has the technology required to unleash its growth potential.
