Nokia banks on mobile internet

Nokia is looking beyond mobile telecommunications to keep pace with innovation and technology.

03 January 2007

Nokia is looking beyond mobile telecommunications to keep pace with innovation and technology to gain competitive advantage within the convergence space.

It's had several years of slow earnings, a stagnant share price that's ten percent lower on the year, an up-and-down lead in a handset market that itself is showing signs of cooling off, several legal and merger risks over its head, and profit margins that remain in decline despite a recovery in sales volumes.

Nokia needs to do something, and according to the man in charge of corporate strategy, that something is to aggressively bring customer-focused products to the market. Jarkko Sairanen, based in Helsinki where the company is headquartered, explains that the company is positioning itself to offer products suited to the diversified needs of consumers, taking into account geographical and socio-economic factors.
