It was with happy anticipation that I examined the major analytical research houses to see what CIO priorities were for 2007. All the research analysts had done their surveys and their results were similar. CIOs think that virtualisation of servers, consolidation of data centres and service oriented architectures (SOAs) are what they should be focusing on in 2007.

Really? Have they told their businesses about their priorities? Because the average business executive's eyes will glaze over. And so the CIO moves one step closer to being the supporting cast.
