Angus Hay, Africa Data Centres

The Africa Data Centre campus in Midrand was a hive of activity at its launch on a September afternoon last year. The company’s top brass were there, along with the media, a choir, dance troupe and caterers and a huge marquee had been set up next to the building. There was a monstrous thunderstorm that afternoon, but everyone stayed nice and dry in the lobby.

When I visited again recently, the same building was deserted, save for a couple of cleaners and security guards, and Dr Angus Hay high up in his office.
