Cilo Cybin is a Johannesburg-based medical cannabis company, the only fully-integrated cannabis firm in the country. It officially listed on the JSE’s Alternative Exchange at the end of June. It controls every part of production, from cultivation through to the extraction of oils and the creation of the final product.

The company cultivates medical-grade cannabis flowers, or buds, for exportation and further processing. While this is its primary focus, when I chat to Cilo Cybin’s CEO, Gabriel Theron, a quarter of an hour goes by before he even mentions cannabis. That’s because he has bigger fish to fry. “Cannabis was always just the starting point for us. Given the hype, it was the easiest route for us to get to where we want to go.”
