If you’re looking for a cheap holiday, Cape Town probably doesn’t top your travel agenda. The swanky city has a local reputation for pummeling you with high prices. But on a global scale, it’s seen as pretty cheap, and ranks at sixth place in the World’s Top 10 Most Affordable Cities. The survey by Trip Advisor was based on a night in a classy hotel, cocktails for two, a two-course dinner with a bottle of house wine and two taxi rides.

That entertaining evening in Cape Town cost $190, which sounds far less bruising when you realise it’s just 37 percent of the amount you’d splurge on the same treat in London. But if you’re looking for some even cheaper or more unusual holiday ideas, here’s the full Top 10:
