ICT charter stumbles to the finish line

Disputes must be shelved and the process should continue, says the steering committee.

05 May 2009

Despite divisions and a failure to reach consensus, the ICT empowerment charter process is progressing. Norman Munzhelele, convenor of the ICT charter steering committee, says work on the Charter has been concluded and the final document has been submitted to the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).

Munzhelele remains optimistic about the process, saying this move marks “huge progress” for the industry. He adds that the committee, which has struggled to complete its ICT Sector Codes of Good Practice on Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment, remains hopeful the document will be gazetted soon.
