How one university is digitally filling the access gap in mental healthcare with a chatbot.

South Africa has a serious mental health issue. According to a study conducted by Wits/Medical Research Council Developmental Pathways for Health Research Unit (DPHRU), more than a quarter of South Africans suffer from depression.

A global report from Sapien Labs ranks South Africa as one of the worst countries on the mental health wellbeing scale and that doesn’t take into account the treatment gap – a percentage the University of Cape Town estimates to be around 92.
