PERFORMANCE BEYON D BORDERS

Brandon Rochat Sales Director, Expand Networks AfricaMarketing: Juniper Networks Staff complaining about network and system performance – again? Perhaps it’s time to look past your business software applications and all the other red herrings like running a defrag, full patching, virus scanning, spyware scanning and so on, and go directly to your Wide Area Network (WAN).

The performance of a network is related to many things, the most obvious one – that of the WAN – is the most frequently overlooked. Most companies manage with assembly-line type WAN operations that carry big incremental price increases with them. This means they soon reach a ceiling in terms of the size of the ‘pipes’ they’re prepared to invest in. At the same time, the amount of data being pumped through the WAN continues to increase, slowing everything down. Instead of looking at WAN optimisation solutions, though, we usually find companies wasting time and money treating ‘symptoms’ rather than investing in the cure.
