The result of the mergers of the University of Transkei, the Eastern Cape Technikon and East London’s Border Technikon, it now has four compass points in Umtata, East London, Butterworth and Queenstown and serves around 30 000 students across the Eastern Cape Province.

While the university was caught on the back foot when level five lockdown happened, this did not stop it from pursuing its ICT path. Right now, according to its COO responsible for operations and ICT, Sinethemba Mpambane, the message that the university is run on ICT is a message that resonates loud and clear throughout the university, from management, to administrators, lecturers, the council and students.
