The all new, regulator-friendly Facebook

Striding boldly (blindly?) into the ‘verse of Meta.

03 May 2022

Sorry, but if you’re running global services adopted by half the world (and shaping the political and social landscapes), don’t be cutesy.

After a tumultuous 2021 marked by scandal and push-back from regulators around the world, I’m sure Mark Zuckerberg and his Meta cohorts were hoping for a calmer 2022. Alas, that doesn’t seem to be on the cards, but – so far – at least most of the headlines have been self-generated for the company formerly known as Facebook.

In the first quarter of the year, we were treated to a series of updates, a mixed bag if ever there was one. These range from important-but-dry financial matters, to the HR and PR misstep that was rebranding staffers from ‘Facebookers’ to ‘Metamates’. Sorry, but if you’re running global services adopted by half the world (and shaping the political and social landscapes), don’t be cutesy.
