Recognising the importance of innovation in creating a viable economy, South Africa`s higher education institutions are fostering young innovators through an annual national competition.

Among the hopefuls to scoop the R300 000 grand prize in the National Innovation Competition are Ronald Malema, Selby Shubane, Abednego Mnisi and Eric Raphulu, who recently claimed victory in a Wits University innovation award which qualified them for the national competition.

The competition is sponsored by the National Research Foundation`s Innovation Fund and is aimed at stimulating entrepreneurship among higher education students.
