Eyes bigger than its stomach

Oracle has voraciously gobbled up just about every enterprise software vendor offering anything perceived as valuable to its long-term mission. So who`s next?

Oracle`s mission and strategy were recently exposed by Nicky Sheridan, Oracle South Africa`s managing director, when he spoke at Intellient`s Solutions Africa conference held at the Spier Wine Estate in Cape Town. The company appears to have a certain German software vendor square in its sights as it seeks world domination of the enterprise applications market.

“Oracle has acquired 36 companies in 33 months. We`re looking to be number one in the applications space – and [the recent acquisition of] Hyperion is part of that [immediate] push,” said Sheridan.
