Sponsored: The importance of modernisation in colocation datacentres
The rise of digital transformation, fuelled by the effects of the pandemic, has fundamentally reshaped the colocation landscape. In Africa, the hunger for digital services, combined with a rapid shift to the cloud, widespread move to distributed workforces and adoption of hybrid working, is also driving massive demand for more modern colocation facilities.

Until a few years ago, colocation datacentres in Africa were few and were centred around major economic hubs only. However, the development of faster and more reliable servers, with the increasing availability of new technologies, dropping broadband costs, and an accelerated move to the cloud, saw things change. It’s increasingly common today for enterprises and service providers to want datcentres outside the primary African hubs in regions closer to them, where the cost of rack space and hosting facilities is competitive.
Businesses are increasingly demanding to see third-party datacentres offering modern colocation facilities in locations closer to the countries from which they operate. To cater to the growing demand for these services, Africa Data Centres announced that it would be investing $500 million to build additional state-of-the-art datacentres across Africa, including in Morocco, Tunisia, and Egypt.
