A techless vision
Technology appears to have taken a back seat in Gauteng’s development plans.
01 July 2009
While her predecessors Mbhazima Shilowa and Paul Mashatile reinforced a vision of a province where residents had easy and free access to government information and services through the internet, Gauteng Premier Nomvula Mokonyane’s State of the Province address was noticeably devoid of her vision for the role of ICT in the province.
Mokonyane’s address failed to offer any indication of the province’s commitment to key technology projects. No new ICT projects were mentioned and the role of technology in the broader vision for the province was not touched on. In her address, Mokonyane spoke of renewal and improved service delivery mechanisms.
