Why has Telkom been so slow in preparing for competition?

Telkom`s shareholders have largely seemed pleased with the company`s performance. However, perhaps they should take pause and consider what might have been.

Telkom announced in April that it would spend R30 billion over five years to allow it to compete in an increasingly liberalised telecoms market. Much of that capital expenditure is to help the company roll out a next-generation network and transform itself into an ICT solutions provider.
