On the spot: Taking green seriously?

IT has been exhorted to go green for some time now, and progress has been made, but is it having a material impact?

Is green being taken seriously yet? Or is it still a nice-to-have? Is it impacting purchasing decisions, or is it just something else to pay lip-service to?

✹ Green in terms of buying criteria is definitely rising up the procurement agenda. Recent data released by the Electronic Product Environmental Assessment Tool (EPEAT), a global assessment standard, showed that sales of registered ‘greener’ electronic products increased by almost 30 percent to 120 million globally. In 2011, the environmental benefits over conventional products resulted in a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions equal to taking 1.6 million cars off the road.
