Physiotherapy goes high-tech

Freeze-frame and go lightly with Qualisys and AlterG.

01 March 2012

Qualisys is a Swedish-based advanced motion capture system that delivers industrial and medical technology products. The Qualisys systems see life in ultra-high resolution (up to 10 000 frames per second), which allows doctors, researchers, sports coaches, movie directors, gaming architects and design engineers the opportunity to refine precision adjustments.

While the Gothenburg business offers technology solutions in three basic areas – biomechanical, industrial and media and entertainment – its global reach locally is in the form of HiTech Therapy, focussed on the biomechanical benefits of the Qualisys suite. The company, headquartered in Johannesburg, calls itself ‘the leading provider of physiotherapy, chiropractic and occupational therapy products and equipment’. Andrew de Kock, the company director, puts it in a nutshell: “We are the largest supplier of rehabilitation and medical exercise equipment. Our main business is physiotherapy, and yes, we’ve got competitors, but no one has our range. Qualisys and our Anti-Gravity treadmill (the AlterG) are our latest technology products.”
