Seeding food security

In the midst of a global food crisis, laws promoting control of the seed market pose a serious threat to food security.

We have a crisis of the belly. The era of cheap food is over. Food prices have risen so considerably that the poor battle to afford the most basic sustenance. The World Bank estimates that food prices have doubled over the last three years and that 100 million people in low-income countries are being pushed into food poverty. The realities of changing diets, energy prices, farming input costs and climate change could mean that the food crisis will be with us for a long time.
