Bluster behind the scenes
Patents are worthless if your opponent has them too.
03 May 2010
I think everybody should be issued with a game buzzer, the louder, the better. That way, whenever someone claims that software patents are “valuable intellectual property”, you can press the button, emit a horrible buzzing noise and say: “Wrong. Game over. Next contestant please.”
The reason is simple: they’re only valuable in the same way nuclear weapons are valuable – you need to have them in case the other guy has them and actually using them is extremely costly. And needless to say, only the very largest organisations can afford them.
