Siyavula Education can trace its roots back to 2002, when it was the Free High School Science Texts project, which began publishing open source textbooks. In the 20-odd years since, the delivery mechanism has changed somewhat, but much of the ethos remains true – to help provide educational support to high school teachers and students from all walks of life.

Winner of the IITPSA’s 2022 Social Responsibility/Community Award, Siyavula’s online platform is focused on mathematics and physical sciences, and still features textbooks that support the curriculum (now available in downloadable PDFs), as well as practice questions that help test and complement students’ understanding of the subjects. The questions are marked in real-time, with step-bystep solutions given. Algorithms help surface further related questions to help boost understanding if a student needs support in a specific subject area.
