According to a research report from Omdia and Vodacom, 80% of local firms admitted to having had a cyber attack in 2023. The South African Banking Risk Information Centre and the CSIR estimate that the country could lose as much as R22 billion each year to hacking. Omdia’s ‘IT Enterprise Insights Survey’ from 2024 found that 42% of organisations polled globally said cybersecurity was their top priority, but that only 36% of organisations had a high degree of confidence that they could prevent a ransomware attack.

Security technologists convened in Cape Town recently to dig into what the report had to offer.
