Devolution of the IT community

It’s hard for those with integrity to make a living in this tarnished and difficult profession.

05 February 2009

Over the last ten years, I’ve noticed a steady decline in the way people treat one another in the industry and the people we serve. What happened to the days where competition didn’t involve outright misrepresentation by vendors, when negotiations between customers and partners didn’t start off with a threat of a lawsuit?

Admittedly the skilled resource pool has shrunk. Many individuals are, and have been, soaked up by other countries that have at least acknowledged there’s a desperate scarcity in the required resources around critical corporate infrastructure. The people who have remained are tired and weary, and the so-called ‘new blood’ seems to be an opportunistic mix of cowboys/cowgirls who shoot first and are then not around to answer questions because, surprise, surprise, they’ve moved before the smoke has cleared!
