Shadow IT is to use unsanctioned software in an organisation. Shadow AI takes that practice to a new and risky level.

In a Pew Research poll conducted late last year, around 27% of Americans say they interact with AI several times a day, and another 28% believe it happens at least once a day. Fortyfour percent believe they don’t regularly interact with AI at all.
The big splash caused by ChatGPT, released just a few weeks before the survey, had yet to reach the public. Those usage and awareness numbers are no doubt much larger today. AI usage has gone mainstream, into our homes and offices, led from the front by eager users.
