They say it’s never too late to learn, and even though Nomusa Keninda has retirement on her horizon, she’s still pushing ahead with her ambition to get a Ph.D. In fact, Keninda’s life story seems to centre around education, whether it’s her own or helping to educate the wider community.
It wasn’t a smooth start, Keninda admits. She didn’t do well at school, earning just a basic matric pass. But after two years of unsuccessfully applying to become a nurse at local hospitals, she returned to the classroom and successfully repeated her matric, enabling her to study at the University of Limpopo, as it was then. She did a BA degree in geography and human movement science, as well as a higher education diploma, qualifying as a teacher.
