Bad decision-making has been a hallmark of the ICT industry, contributing to its reputation as a high-risk sector, says South Africa`s corporate governance expert Mervyn King who spoke at the Futurex Conference.

Mervyn King, who chaired the King Commission into Cor-porate Governance, says governance is playing a pivotal role, not only for companies in the ICT sector, but also for companies and the boards that have to make decisions about implementing new technologies.

"There is a difference between practising good governance and making the right business decisions. A board can make bad business decisions, but have good governance. However, if a company practises poor governance and the board makes a bad business decision, then one has a scandal on one`s hands," he says.
