Like the corporate world, public sector bodies are looking to the cloud for the next generation of IT services, eager to achieve flexibility, scalability and cost benefits. However, concerns linger over data jurisdiction, government standards, and procurement processes. Will government departments be able to safely embrace cloud services? How will SITA’s role evolve in the era of public cloud, or will it act as a brake on cloud deployment? Will the lack of co-ordination lead to isolated deployments, regardless of central policy? As the early hype disperses, cloud projects are becoming a standard strategic consideration for the corporate CIO, but for his public sector counterpart, the situation is, well, political.
