This month, Mind Shift looks at Nedbank, which in 2002 broke new ground in South African banking circles with its maiden Corporate Sustainability Report.

Since 2002, Nedbank has managed to consolidate a reputation for being the most proactive of the large South African retail banks when it comes to addressing sustainability issues. It was the first to adopt the Equator Principles, has made significant mileage out of its cause related marketing partnership with the World Wildlife Foundation (WWF), features regularly on the Dow Jones Sustainability Index, and was recently adjudged as having one of the top 50 sustainability reports in the UNEP/Sustain A bility 2006 Global Survey. The bank’s recently published 2006 report, which uses the recently released G3 Sustainability Reporting Guidelines, has made further strides in giving the sustainability agenda broader currency within the organisation.
