Toasting free access
Freedom Toasters – open source software dispensing machines – are now being used by the University of south Africa (Unisa) to provide course content material to students around the country.

The machines, produced since December 2007 with support from the Shuttleworth Foundation, were initially developed to encourage the uptake of open source software.
Now South Africa’s largest distance-learning institution has already established 30 Freedom Toasters and is planning on placing 30 more in order to assist students who have difficulty accessing to the internet.
