This prediction relied on one very important fact: that everything connecting to the new all-embracing network would have to ‘talk’ the same language. This has only become a reality in the past few years as IP has become increasingly pervasive. In the absence of any other pretender to the throne, it seems that IP has become that language, as well as one of the major universal drivers of converged communications/unified communications strategies.
