Online privacy:drawing the line
With massive uptake of social media like Facebook, how much risk are we exposed to when we communicate using social media services online?
03 January 2011
Facebook is six years old. What started as a semi-private communications channel for people at Harvard University has grown into a global network that claims 500 million active users. That would make it the third-largest ‘country’ on the planet and the company’s estimated market value is around $22 billion (unlike Google, Facebook is not listed yet).
Facebook has received a lot of attention in the media for its privacy policies, with plenty of negative commentary from privacy advocates, high-profile users and even some focus from governments in various parts of the world. For users and the businesses they work for, this is a concern.
