Investec Specialist Bank SA CIO Shabhana Thaver says you can’t talk about technology in isolation; you have to talk about the business case.

Investec is the country’s fifth largest bank and has won the best private bank and wealth manager in South Africa at the Global Private Banking Awards, every year for the last decade. And in these bruising economic times, the duel-listed bank has done particularly well for the year to March, reporting adjusted operating profits of £835.9 million (R20.1 billion), from £687.4 (R16.6 billion) the year before. Group CEO Fani Titi has said its “focused approach” in support of its clients as well as its diversified revenue streams underpinned its financial performance. The group’s remuneration committee seemed to concur, and awarded Titi a whopping 73% salary increase in July, which came to £7.5 million (R179.8 million).
