The South African Weather Service, an agency under the Department of Environmental Affairs and Tourism, has the dual task of providing both public good and commercial weather and climate forecasting services. Its activities generate enormous amounts of information, with a high proportion of graphical data, and its areas of observation range from the endless southern skies to the vast oceans around the base of the continent.
