Samsung prods the tablet market – again

Just weeks after Samsung wowed the smartphone market with the launch of the Galaxy S3 smartphone, it has taken another poke at the tablet market – this time with the launch of the Galaxy Note II.

Although the first Note sold well, it was not without its critics, namely because it was too big to be a phone and too small to be a tablet. But the new Note features a bigger screen and the specs have been dramatically increased. Will this make for a winning recipe? We’ll have to wait and see.

The Galaxy Note II builds on the success of its predecessor, the Galaxy Note, which was described as a smartphone for truly personal, artistic and creative expression. The new Note features a 5.5-inch HD Super AM OLE D screen with a maximum resolution of 720 x 1 280 pixels and a pixel density of 267ppi. It comes pre-installed with the Android 4.1 or Jelly Bean operating system. Powering the tablet is a 1.6GHz quad-core processor, which is backed up by 2GB of RAM . Samsung has improved the comfort and accuracy of the S Pen and introduced new features, like Air View, which allows users to hover with the stylus over an e-mail, calendar entry or video for a quick preview. Connectivity options include near field communications (NFC), WiFi and Bluetooth, and although only a 3G version of the tablet is available at the moment, an LTE version can be bought at a later stage.
