As the largest hyperscaler, with over a million customers, it could be argued that Amazon Web Services (AWS) can be held more accountable for the proper functioning of the online world and cloud computing in general. Mark Ryland, director, Amazon Security, says the company had adopted a leadership principle in the last few years, along the lines of “with great size comes great responsibility”.

“We believe we have to focus on these common good type of scenarios,” he told me during an interview at this year’s AWS re:Invent summit in Las Vegas in late November.
