Tanzania and Zambia: fast-growing economies set the stage for ICT

As we head into the middle of this decade, Tanzania and Zambia are set to be among the fastest-growing economies in the world. That means ICT should also see excellent growth with the right mix of dynamics.

Tanzania (7.2 percent average GDP growth) and Zambia (6.9 percent average GDP growth) will be among the ten fastest-growing economies between 2011 and 2015, according to The Economist. Both are members of SADC, and both are involved in spatial development corridors (Nacala for Zambia and Central for Tanzania) like the Maputo corridor, which will bolster economic development as infrastructure comes online.

Having an eastern coastline, Tanzania benefited easily from the undersea cable developments of Seacom and Eassy, being a landing point for both. In addition, the countries of the EAC have implemented terrestrial backhaul between them to connect the common market through broadband.
